Bigger, badder hurricanes say climate scare-mongers

Wrong again

Wrong again

A good old fashioned scare story from the Silly Moaning Herald, just like the good old days. Remember the cover of Al Gore’s book (see right), showing multiple hurricanes approaching the US (one even spinning the wrong way for the Northern Hemisphere…!)? Well it’s time for that scare to be recycled once again:

The number of Atlantic storms with magnitude similar to killer Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the U.S. Gulf Coast in 2005, could rise sharply this century, environmental researchers reported on Monday.

Scientists have long studied the relationship between warmer sea surface temperatures and cyclonic, slowly spinning storms in the Atlantic Ocean, but the new study attempts to project how many of the most damaging hurricanes could result from warming air temperatures as well.

The extreme storms are highly sensitive to temperature changes, and the number of Katrina-magnitude events could double due to the increase in global temperatures that occurred in the 20th century, the researchers reported in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

If temperatures continue to warm in the 21st century, as many climate scientists project, the number of Katrina-strength hurricanes could at least double, and possibly rise much more, with every 1.8 degree F (1 degree C) rise in global temperatures, the researchers said. (source)

Funny that the accumulated cyclone energy is now almost as low as in the mid 1970s, when a new Ice Age was the environmental scare du jour. Apparently, 30+ years of man made warming hasn’t made much of an impact on cyclone and hurricane activity. But don’t let the facts get in the way of a good scare, eh?

Catastrophic increase in cyclone energy?

Catastrophic increase in cyclone energy?

    The frequency and magnitude of hurricanes/cyclones could also decrease in a warmer world, since one of the factors producing them is the temperature differential between warmer and colder climates, which reduces as the arctic and high latitudes warm faster than the tropics under global warming (which is currently occuring).

    The same is true for tornadoes, these are caused by mixing very warm air with very cold air, best developed in the southern USA; if the cold air is less cold, and the temperature differential smaller, then the number and strength of tornaodes could actually decrease with a warmer world. Same goes for hurricanes/cyclones. But dont expect the warmists to fugure it out, it requires lateral, non-alarmist thinking to even think of the concept.

    Me thinks “if” is as close to maybe as BS is as too close.

  3. The Great Green Con no. 1: The hard proof that finally shows global warming forecasts that are costing you billions were WRONG all along

    Ouch ++

    This is the picture they used with the report from the Niels Bohr Institute, with the caption:
    “The extreme storm surge from superstorm Sandy in the autumn 2012 flooded large sections of New York and other coastal cities in the region. New research shows that such hurricane surges will become more frequent in a warmer climate.”

    And this is what they pass off as science!

    It offers up an alternative climate change solution totally from left field – I hope you get the chance to check it out.
