Politicians think they can control anything, including the climate. Perhaps they should all be forced to spend a few minutes playing with this animation to get a sense of perspective. Enjoy. (h/t Smokey)
Amazing "scale of the universe" animation

What makes anyone think that this is any more “REAL” than the virtual reality of Climate Change?
The BIG BANG universe is nothing more than mathematical assumption built on mathematical and is no more reality than the virtual reality of Climate modelling.
Climatology wrote the book on scientific propaganda. How else do you thing they could attract BILLIONS of dollars to hunt for chimera such as gravity waves, black holes, dark matter, dark energy, God particles ad infinitum.
Taxpayers money being spent in the vain search for things that can’t be seen or even defined nor understood unless you are “in the club” of tenured mathemagicians.
“We can’t find or even define what we are looking for but our calculations just can’t be wrong. Trust us we’re professors and PhD of mathematics.”
Sound familar.
Awe inspiring. Thanks Simon.
@Paul: Actually, I think there’s a big difference. There is a fundamental human need to understand our origins, and I for one am happy for a part of my taxes to help pay for research into the things you mention. They have no political axe to grind and do not affect my day to day life (except in enriching my understanding of the universe). Climate change, on the other hand, is a politically motivated agenda which seeks to diminish my lifestyle, make me pay more for energy, make me change my lightbulbs against my will etc etc, based on flawed and corrupt science. That I certainly do object to.
Sorry Simon I just don’t get your logic.
You are quite happy for us to spend billions of dollars on chimera that don’t effect us but baulk at spending billions that do.
I don’t need insulation in my roof because I did it myself years ago and I don’t have children at school who need new computers or necessary facilities like decent classrooms and libraries. But I am just as outraged as the parents and P&Cs that do.
Unjustified waste is unjustified waste whatever the bogus justification used.
You really need to look at the bigger picture of scientific fraud in general to understand WHY climate science has got away with so much for so long.
Corruption of the peer review process has been going on in all areas of the physics community for a very long time and just focusing on one small area of that corrupt process is not going to change the dynamic.
We have only now discovered that the much vaunted Stephen-Boltzmann equation (something that has been held up as an “iron clad” law of physics) is rubbish and that NASA has been hiding the fact since the Apollo program in the 1960’s. The same NASA who with the help of James Hansen and Gavin Schmidt have been using this “gold standard equation” in their radiative forcing calculations.
The fraud in climate science is NOT an exception in post-modern science it’s the RULE.
What else might we catch if we cast our nets a little further?
The cost of research into the origins of the universe are tiny compared to the costs of climate change research and, more importantly, emissions reduction policies. I certainly don’t think cosmology and particle physics are examples of post-modern science, primarily because there is no political contamination. I think we will have to agree to disagree – personally, I find questions concerning the origins of the universe fascinating, as they define our very existence.
