Excellent. The first of many disagreements between Labor and the Greens which will, hopefully, see this pointless and dangerous tax never make it into law. The Greens, thinking they now run the country [they do – Ed], are getting pushy about including petrol in the carbon tax, to get your evil SUV off the road for good. Even Labor, who would sell their own grandmother to stay in power, is worried by this, as they see their core vote starting to desert them:
Petrol prices are already causing political tension for the federal government as it moves to introduce a carbon tax.
On a day when Prime Minister Julia Gillard finally admitted she had promised there would be no carbon tax a week before the August 21 poll, she sternly rebuked the Australian Greens for speculating how far the tax would be extended when it is introduced next year.
A carbon price regime is scheduled to begin in July 2012 but decisions are yet to be made on what sectors are included.
Agriculture will be exempt but a tax could still apply to the transport and energy sectors.
The Greens want petrol included so funds can be directed towards greener public transport.
But Ms Gillard is having none of that and had stern words for a key member of her multi-party climate change committee on Sunday.
“I understand that the deputy leader of the Greens, Christine Milne, made some statements about this matter,” she told the Nine Network.
“Those statements, in my view, were not appropriate in the sense these discussions are still to come and discussions are to be taken.” (source)
With luck, Labor will eventually learn a very unpalatable lesson about signing tawdry deals with a bunch of hysterical environmental extremists masquerading as a political party…

Well it seems the Irish have had enough of the Greens trying to get cars off the road, the Greens were in charge of transport in the coalition government, as a result in the Irish elections they lost all six of their seats, the Irish have woken up to the Greens warped & life destroying ethics & gave them a thoroughly good kick in the “nut cutlets”!, lets hope it catches on elsewhere rather quickly.
Oh great, this “woman of principal” is having “none of that”!!!
and her “stern words” will set it all straight won’t they…
Yeah…I’ll bet the greens are just trembling in their boots.
What a bunch of incompetent CLOWNS the ALP are…..
Nothing if not predictable. Rudd couldn’t get the Greens to sign onto his deal, and they didn’t have an MP or balance of power then.
Perhaps once the media get a whiff of the split between the green/labor coalition they will start hunting there looking for a story. They love nothing more than a bit of he said/she said fighting within political parties.
The greens are getting bold and think they are important. This is an excellent development for those awaiting their fall.
Perhaps we can be like Ireland and completely remove them from parliament at the next election.
Exactly.
These green fools are chocked full of hubris.
Combine that with their total ignorance of the real mood in the electorate – and they are CACTUS.
I’m starting to wonder (as I outlined below) if the greens are being given “enough rope”
It makes some sense as they would be completely blinded by their hubris to the “set up”…
Did Windsor go along with this green fiasco to “test the waters” in his electorate on this issue leaving himself an exit strategy if necessary?
Are Gillard and co doing the same? (ie letting the greens bury themselves)

Be warned, if they leave petrol off the agenda now it will only be a temporary political move. The petrol, farms [cows & sheep farting methane] & everything else will be taxed at a later stage. They will encompass anything that moves if it can be taxed.
Get rid of them now before it’s too late. They are SOCIALISTS and this is what socialists do best………..tax everything to the hilt.
Proceeds of all this of course will go to pay for our “climate debt” owed to Africa for causing their poverty. [This is known as the redistribution of poverty]
Why can’t the electorate see what’s going on here. Are they too stupid or have they been “brainwashed”????
Josef Goebels of the National Socialist party would have been proud of the
socialist Green/labour coalition!!
And don’t think that walking to work will let you evade the carbon tax: exercise increases your respiratory rate and exhaled CO2.
You may be taxed by the metre!
Could the Greens be stupid enough to do it again. They knocked back K Rudd’s CPRS could they be stupid enough to shoot themself in the foot again.
The carbon tax is what we need to ensure we take responsibility for our countries excesses. Just like we are not responsible for being able to drive and not drink or not speed without restrictions, so we need to be restricted in generation of carbon per person and or reliance on fossil fuels. And by the way, the only way we can afford the health and education system we all seem to want is to pay for it by higher taxes. One thing that socialists governments do well is provide quality health and education services to all in their countries. We need to change the way we think about our political and tax system if we want these services for all and not just for the rich.
Ian – so you think the carbon (dioxide) tax is a good idea. Please tell us by how many parts per million you think it will reduce or slow the growth rate the global concentration of co2 by.
I doubt you’ll answer so I’ll answer for you – such a small amount it would not be measurable. So what exactly is the point, again? You say it will cause us to take responsibility, but the government is going to give people money to keep on doing what they are doing. Again, what is the point? Either you raise the price to discourage people, or the tax has no effect. And it will have no effect anyway.
The thing that pays for more social services in Australia than anything else is taxes and royalties collected from mining companies. To collect more taxes all you have to do is make mining more profitable. Then you can have better roads and hospitals. And you don’t have to change the tax rates – just allow more mines to be built and improve the certainty for their capital intensive operations. More profitability increases retirement nest eggs and reduces the need for pensions from the government. More employment, more profit, more taxes, less welfare and pensions to pay – what’s not to like?
Oh, and socialism might have good education outcomes – if by that you mean people with pieces of paper from universities. What it is spectacularly bad at is providing those people with a paying job. I’d rather have less education and an income than more education and no income. It’s no good quoting shakespeare to the dole office workers.
It is impossible to mount a good argument for a carbon tax without invoking some type of far-off and vague benefit with absolutely no way of being sure it will happen. With no argument for, and plenty of arguments against, it’s bizarre that any rational person would argue for it, even if their favourite political party has adopted it.
Is this your attempt at logical argument?
You do realise how stupid you sound don’t you?
Surely you are not suggesting you need a law to prevent you drink driving?
such a lame and brainless comment. How does one respond.I see smart dumb people!
