The Science and Public Policy Institute undertakes the cost/benefit analysis of Australian climate mitigation policies that the Gillard government strangely doesn’t want to do.
Gillard and Combet are always banging on about a carbon tax being in the “national interest”, but the reality is that a tax with no benefit couldn’t be less in the national interest.
So, ladies and gentlemen, if we shut down Australia’s economy completely tomorrow, then by 2100, we would have slowed any man-made warming by:
0.01 degrees
So Julia, please explain why we are bothering with any kind of carbon price?
Read it here (PDF).
Thanks to Jo Nova, who did the wonderful graphic!

“Shut down Australia for 0.01 degrees.”
Another shining example of green logic…
Loaded Dog, I know what you are saying and quite right too. But I don’t think gree and logic should ever be used in the same sentence; the term oxy-moron comes to mind.
Fair comment Fat Lady…but the greens do have a “special” kind of logic – “green logic” – a sickly form that is completely unrecognisable if compared with the logic you’re referring to…
And with reference to your screen name!
Yes indeed Fat Lady, soon enough the stage will be yours; and you can sing to your hearts content.
JuLiar and her rainbow alliance are cactus, and your singing will be sweet music to my ears..
I can hardly wait…..
Approaching the November 2007 election, Australians were warned that the Labor team lacked economic management experience, and 70% of the front bench had a union movement background and lacked experience in real business.
Well, we have certainly been experiencing the consequences of that warning. Whether its the NBN, government borrowings, stimulus waste, mining tax, or whatever… it’s just been one cock up after another!
The Gillard government is not interested in cost/benefit analyses… pay back periods… opportunity costs… or whatever. The Gillard government simply thinks it must implement ‘party dogma’ irrespective of the cost or the impact on the economy.
You don’t have to be an accountant to know that Gillard is going to impose a significant cost on the Australian people, for absolutely no gain whatsoever. The Gillard government doesn’t want to do the sums. Gillard just wants us to believe he spin because she thinks we’re so dumb that we’ll all just bow to her “yes mam… no mam… three bags full mam!”
