Communities wrecked
Biofuels – just the latest in the long line of green mirages, which, like all the others, disappears the closer you inspect it. Driven by the madness of climate change zealots who are hectoring and badgering us to abandon cheap coal and oil to “save the planet”, biofuels succeed in only two things – depriving already poor communities of their livelihoods and the world of its precious food resources.
As The Guardian reports:
“The collapse of Sun Biofuels has left hundreds of Tanzanians landless, jobless, and in despair for the future
People feel this is like the return of colonialism,” says Athumani Mkambala, chairman of Mhaga village in rural Tanzania. “Colonialism in the form of investment.”
A quarter of the village’s land in Kisarawe district was acquired by a British biofuels company in 2008, with the promise of financial compensation, 700 jobs, water wells, improved schools, health clinics and roads. But the company has gone bust, leaving villagers not just jobless but landless as well. The same story is playing out across Africa, as foreign investors buy up land but leave some of the poorest people on Earth worse off when their plans fail.
The tale of London-based Sun Biofuels’s misadventure in Kisarawe links the broken hopes of the villagers to offshore tax havens and mysterious new owners, tracked down by the Observer, and ultimately to petrol pumps in the UK and across Europe. The final link results from the mandatory blending of biofuels into European petrol and diesel. The aim is to reduce carbon emissions, but many say biofuels actually increase pollution. The G20 meeting next week will discuss the issue, following a stark report it received in June from the World Bank, World Trade Organisation, UN and others calling for biofuels subsidies to be abandoned.
“The situation in Kisarawe is heartbreaking, but the real tragedy is that it is far from unique. Communities across Africa and beyond are losing their land as a result of the massive biofuel targets set by our government,” said Josie Cohen at development group ActionAid, which works in Kisarawe. “Like it or not, everyone who drives a car or catches a bus is involved in this problem, as all UK petrol and diesel is mixed with biofuels.”
Utterly scandalous, but just par for the course in this wonderful new “green economy”.

Australian Climate Madness

Greens wrecking Africa …. another failure.
All, pleasantly bedazzled by the euphoric radiance of a shining white knight who had eyes for a potential tax haven scheme.
And this Australian labor government wants to parcel our hard earned taxes off to third world countries ripe for exploitation.
The real tragedy is this quote from The Guardian article:
“The Observer’s investigations and those of journalist Stefano Valentino have identified at least 30 abandoned biofuels projects in 15 African countries.”
Add it to the list of other failed ‘green’ companies.
You people have got this all wrong. It’s not a failure… it’s an opportunity. The Greens would have a solution to this! Simple:
1. Increase tax on oil to make biofuel more price competitive;
2. Subsidise low income earners so you don’t get them off-side at the next election (though it doesn’t matter about future elections because the electorate forgets quickly);
3. Set up a new government department to manage the new tax, and;
4. Spend millions to advertise it, and tell everyone this is about creating jobs (in the biofuels industry).
All you need then is a weak and desperate Labor government to collapse under your demands and “Hey Presto”… the problem has gone away.
Seems so obvious to me… 😉
Save the world: cut down rain forests and plant sugar cane for biofuels !
And they want to “save the planet”? They’re ruining it…and whole communities! Friggin’ shameful, and hypocritical.
If there are any beneficiaries of this waste, they would be the bourgeoisie in the cities of these African nations. They can afford to laugh at their empoverished countrymen, and retire to Europe when things get tough.
Greens not only wrecking Africa, they are hellbent to destroy the World and Civilization. Marxist Watermelon Loonies!
Kurt summed it up well, however, let me point out that the goal of current Brown Gillard neo-Stallinist alliance is to destroy democracy and usurp power for good. Their behaviour mirrors that from the Soviet era dictatorships. They will call it People’s Democracy as was the case before. No freedom of press, no freedom of expression, secret police everywhere, state brutality, gulags……. You name it.
Didn’t we learn from the global warming scam. If it has a “green” label it’s all a lie.
