‘Mediacracy’ creates consensus

"Stop telling me what to think!"

“Stop telling me what to think!”

People don’t have to think for themselves any more, because the media does it for them.

The ABC, like the BBC in the UK and the majority of mainstream media outlets in the US, parrots the same liberal-left slant on every story, including the absolute belief in the alarmist position on climate change. Daniel Greenfield writes:

A nation where governments are elected by the people is most vulnerable at the interface between the politicians and the people. The interface is where the people learn what the politicians stand for and where the politicians learn what the people want. The bigger a country gets, the harder it is to pick up on that consensus by stopping by a coffee shop or an auto repair store. That’s where the Mediacracy steps in to control the consensus.

The media is no longer informative, it is conformative. It is not interested in broadcasting events unless it can also script them. It does not want to know what you think, it wants to tell you what to think. The consensus is the voice of the people and the Mediacrats are cutting its throat, dumping its body in a back alley and turning democracy into their own puppet show.

Media bias was over decades ago. The media isn’t biased anymore, it’s a player, its goal is turn its Fourth Estate into a fourth branch of government, the one that squats below the three branches and blocks their access to the people and blocks the people’s access to them. Under the Mediacracy there will still be elections, they will even be mostly free, they just won’t matter so long as its upper ranks determine the dialogue on both sides of the media wall.

The Mediacracy isn’t playing for peanuts anymore. It’s not out to skew a few stories, it’s out to take control of the country. In military empires, the military can act as a Praetorian Guard. In political empires, it’s the people who control the political conversation who also control the succession.

The remainder of the article looks at the US angle, but from an Aussie perspective, so much of this is applicable.

We have the ABC, a conservative-free zone, which never, EVER, reports any story about climate change which challenges the accepted consensus, and which demonises and ridicules those who do, supported by liberal-left academics who claim that any media outlet which does, or which criticises their politically correct opinions, is part of an evil “hate media” which should be muzzled by legislation.

For those of the population which rely on the ABC for their news, there is no doubt about climate change, just as Tony Abbott is as wicked as John Howard, and that Julia Gillard had nothing to do with a union slush fund which was allegedly defrauded by her ex-boyfriend.

Fortunately, however, the media cannot control the direct effects of their agenda on the population, such as losing one’s job or house because the economy has slumped, or losing one’s property rights because of crazy planning laws resulting from climate change alarmism, and people wake up to realise they have been duped.

We can see this happening in Australia, as more and more people are discovering just how much of a lefty echo-chamber the ABC has become. Despite all attempts by the ABC to derail Abbott and the Coalition at the election in September, the people weren’t fooled, and for that we should be grateful.

  1. I don’t even watch the ABC anymore as they way that the report the news is pathetic, they dredge up old stories all the time and give them a new run while there are many new and important news items that don’t get reported at all and many many times the news ticker on ABC24 is just regurgitating the same old stuff for days and days and anyone would think that there was no new news this week, the only way to fix the ABC is to sell it off and let it fend for itself and at least that way then the new owners will have to pay the bills and not the tax payers, what will happen is the same as what happened to Fairfax, they are perfect proof of the old tale about ‘How to get a small business going” That is to start with a big one and then to stuff it up. When you look at how much Fairfax was worth just a few years ago, and what it is worth now, then they, the Fairfax Board, they must be so proud of what they have achieved in just a few short years. There is no way that I will drink their brand of Koolaid and anyone who does just gulp it down deserves what they get. I think myself that the Australian Public is not as stupid as they think we are, the fact that we have this fine new Federal Government is all the proof that I need. N

  2. ..and when an Antarctic research ship becomes stuck in the ice:

They fail to mention the ice is at record levels, and that the expedition is a group of alarmists attempting to show that the ice is “disappearing”. I guess extremely embarrassing irony might diminish the “consensus”.

Also ironically, alarmists are claiming that “climate change” (which they earlier describe as disappearing sea-ice) is causing this “unusual” sea-ice.

All this is rather like watching a dog or cat trying to run on ice; a lot of slipping, tumbling, falling flat on their face, and being uproariously funny if it were not so sad.

    • Not only have those idiots “researching” “climate change” become stuck in sea ice but it’s happening during the Antarctic summer.

      Haahaahaahaahaaahaa! I couldn’t stop laughing !! Morons.

      But,ssshhhh, don’t tell anyone.

  3. Even better fun (until it becomes disaster) is reading WUWT’s constant updates on what’s happening in Antarctica – particularly the comment thread. A phalanx of global observers with good b/s detectors.

  4. Oops – the WUWT link herewith:

It’s got even better since my previous post – someone has now posted a 1912 video of Mawson landing at ice-free Commonwealth Bay.

    Tim Flannery, where are you?

  5. Lew Skannen says:

Abbott has to bite the bullet and deal with the ABC. They will screech blue murder when he does something but it has to be done.
Tip to Mr Abbott – they will never be appeased and they will always cry murder no matter how gently you try and reform them so you may as well just wade in and do the job hard and fast the first time.

    • Tony don’t wait, just do it, sell the ABC

    • Sean McHugh says:

Absolutely, he will never get them to like him. Unfortunately there is a growing perception that that is what he is trying to do, and it’s at the expense of those who supported him. If he is trying to appease the Left, I hope he wakes up soon. If he is just inadvertently giving that impression, I still hope he wakes up soon, because he is starting to alienate his support base.

  6. Progressives don’t like to think too much … hence their undying belief in climate catastrophe.

As davidnx above pointed out, where is the ABC’s report of record ice in the Antarctic? Conveniently side-stepped so as not to promote too much thought about record ice levels because it doesn’t fit within the alarmist meme!

If the ABC dared to report a balanced view on climate science, it might open the door to more people questioning the ever doubtful and always exaggerated alarmist claims.

  7. I urge all the people here to lobby your own elected rep,to get rid of Our ABC and while they are at it,close some of Our Universities. They are nothing more than sponges on Our Tax Payer Dollars.

  8. Please don’t campaign for the sell-off of the ABC. We don’t want another tabloid/comic TV channel with mind-numbing, dumb advertising!!
I reckon the ABC is not too far gone to fix?? But it will take a radical or revolutionary approach to rectify. We have the government now that can fix it.
Never-mind-the crap that they report concerning climate change which, in my view, is despicable but have you seen the programming over the summer holidays?
