All the manipulation, distortion and suppression revealed by these emails took place because it would seem these scientists knew their belief was not only correct but unchallengeable; and so when faced with evidence that showed it was false, they tried every which way to make the data fit the prior agenda. And those who questioned that agenda themselves had to be airbrushed out of the record, because to question it was simply impossible. Only AGW zealots get to decide, apparently, what science is. Truth is what fits their ideological agenda. Anything else is to be expunged.

I have seldom felt so alone. Confronted with crisis, most of the environmentalists I know have gone into denial. The emails hacked from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia, they say, are a storm in a tea cup, no big deal, exaggerated out of all recognition. It is true that climate change deniers [!!] have made wild claims which the material can’t possibly support (the end of global warming, the death of climate science). But it is also true that the emails are very damaging.

The response of the greens and most of the scientists I know is profoundly ironic, as we spend so much of our time confronting other people’s denial. Pretending that this isn’t a real crisis isn’t going to make it go away.

This is what they did — these climate “scientists” on whose unsupported word the world’s classe politique proposes to set up an unelected global government this December in Copenhagen, with vast and unprecedented powers to control all formerly free markets, to tax wealthy nations and all of their financial transactions, to regulate the economic and environmental affairs of all nations, and to confiscate and extinguish all patent and intellectual property rights.

The tiny, close-knit clique of climate scientists who invented and now drive the “global warming” fraud — for fraud is what we now know it to be — tampered with temperature data so assiduously that, on the recent admission of one of them, land temperatures since 1980 have risen twice as fast as ocean temperatures. One of the thousands of emails recently circulated by a whistleblower at the University of East Anglia, where one of the world’s four global-temperature datasets is compiled, reveals that data were altered so as to prevent a recent decline in temperature from showing in the record. In fact, there has been no statistically significant “global warming” for 15 years — and there has been rapid and significant cooling for nine years.

Worse, these arrogant fraudsters — for fraudsters are what we now know them to be — have refused, for years and years and years, to reveal their data and their computer program listings. Now we know why: As a revealing 15,000-line document from the computer division at the Climate Research Unit shows, the programs and data are a hopeless, tangled mess. In effect, the global temperature trends have simply been made up. Unfortunately, the British researchers have been acting closely in league with their U.S. counterparts who compile the other terrestrial temperature dataset — the GISS/NCDC dataset. That dataset too contains numerous biases intended artificially to inflate the natural warming of the 20th century.

Finally, these huckstering snake-oil salesmen and “global warming” profiteers — for that is what they are — have written to each other encouraging the destruction of data that had been lawfully requested under the Freedom of Information Act in the UK by scientists who wanted to check whether their global temperature record had been properly compiled. And that procurement of data destruction, as they are about to find out to their cost, is a criminal offense. They are not merely bad scientists — they are crooks. And crooks who have perpetrated their crimes at the expense of British and U.S. taxpayers.

I am angry, and so should you be.

ABC video: CRU leaks on Lateline

The ABC finally, finally, acknowledges the CRU leaks with a slot on Lateline (hosted by arch ABC alarmist Tony Jones). And whilst they do interview Andrew Bolt, they wheel out Andy Pitman, another hysterical alarmist, to pooh-pooh everything in the material (even the threats to destroy data, which Pitman excuses as reasonable behaviour when confidentiality agreements are in place – utter nonsense of course). And the presenter of the segment is none other than the author of the dire ABC Copenhagen Blog, Margot O’Neill, so of course, she gives the last word to Pitman.

UPDATE: The ABC then goes overboard and give an entire article to Australian Alarmist of the Year Tim Flannery, to flannel his way out of the fix the warmists are in:

Climate change sceptics are hailing the emails as proof the research data has been skewed and suppressed.

But Dr Flannery says the scientific community knows enough to say greenhouse gases cause global warming, and that humans are responsible.

“The thing is we deal with an incomplete understanding of the way the Earth’s system works, we know enough to say as the IPCC said that greenhouse gases cause warming,” he said.

“They are 90 per cent-plus sure that it’s caused by humans, we can go that far.

“In the last few years, where there hasn’t been a continuation of that warming trend, we don’t understand all of the factors that creates Earth’s climate, so there are some things we don’t understand, that’s what the scientists were emailing about.”

Admitting you don’t know everything there is to know about the climate? That must hurt.

UK: Lord Lawson calls for public enquiry into CRU data "manipulation"

Lord Lawson, the former chancellor, has called for an independent inquiry into claims that leading climate change scientists manipulated data to strengthen the case for man-made global warming.

Thousands of emails and documents stolen from the University of East Anglia (UEA) and posted online indicate that researchers massaged figures to mask the fact that world temperatures have been declining in recent years.

This morning Lord Lawson, who has reinvented himself as a prominent climate change sceptic since leaving front line politics, demanded that the apparent deception be fully investigated.

He claimed that the credibility of the university’s world-renowned Climatic Research Unit – and British science – were under threat.

“They should set up a public inquiry under someone who is totally respected and get to the truth,” he told the BBC Radio Four Today programme.

“If there’s an explanation for what’s going on they can make that explanation.”

Whilst the global media is picking up on the story by the hour, our national broadcaster, the Australian Alarmist Broadcasting Corporation, is still holding out on ClimateGate, refusing steadfastly to publish anything on the story at all!

Why is this? Simple. The ABC made up its mind on climate change years ago (if you doubt that, just take a look here), and whenever something comes along that challenges that mindset, it does the childish “la-la-la-fingers-in-ears-I’m-not-listening” routine. They are however very happy to run these recent stories, however:

And of course, the diabolical Countdown to Copenhagen blog of Margot Moonbat O’Neill.

It would be funny if it weren’t such appalling behaviour for a national broadcaster. Just like the CRU lot censored inconvenient climate data, the ABC censors inconvenient climate news.

There is a colossal scandal erupting in the blogosphere, and in the better media. Someone, probably an insider offended by what he saw was going on, leaked a large volume of emails from within the global warming priesthood centred within the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia, UK.

These show a pattern of manipulation, suppression and selection of data and evidence all designed to create and maintain the global warming myth.

So now we know – Global Warming is man-made after all – it is created by a small group of dedicated believers posing as scientists using manufactured data, selected statistics, dodgy computer models and “mates reviewed” papers.

The editors of some news outlets still haven’t read the CRU Files, so don’t yet realise that alarmists massage data to fit their pre-conceived catastrophist agenda, and (bless) still believe every press release they read:

“Crumbling icesheets could add 5m to sea levels”

THE East Antarctic icesheet, once seen as largely unaffected by global warming, has lost billions of tonnes of ice since 2006 and could boost sea levels in the future, according to a new study.

Published yesterday in Nature Geoscience, the same study shows that the smaller but less stable West Antarctic icesheet is also shedding significant mass.

Scientists worry that rising global temperatures could trigger a rapid disintegration of West Antarctica, which holds enough frozen water to push up the global ocean watermark by about five metres.

In 2007 the UN Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) predicted sea levels would rise 18 to 59cm by 2100, but this estimate did not factor in the potential impact of crumbling icesheets in Greenland and Antarctica. (source)

At last, the story is out in Australia, with coverage in The Australian and others:

The Australian – Hackers expose climate brawl

COMPUTER hackers have broken into Britain’s leading climate science research centre, making public thousands of private emails between top climate change scientists and, in the process, laying bare their bitter disagreements about the cause of climate change.

The emails — more than 2000 of them, plus 3000 documents — began appearing online late on Friday, and are widely available.

Some are malicious — in one, the head of Britain’s Climatic Research Unit, Phil Jones, says he is “cheered” by news of the sudden death of a prominent Australian climate sceptic, John L. Daly, who died of a heart attack at his Launceston home in 2004.

Others show scientists referring to sceptical colleagues as “prats”, “charlatans” and “idiots”.

The emails also acknowledge the frustration of trying to find evidence to “prove” man-made climate change. (source)

The Daily Telegraph – Warming to the climate con job

An anonymous statement attached to the emails announced: “We feel that climate science is too important to be kept under wraps. We hereby release a random selection of correspondence, code, and documents. Hopefully it will give some insight into the science and the people behind it.”

It sure does. Few outside of climate nerd circles have ever heard of Jones, Mann, Briffa etc, but these blokes (why are climate alarmists usually rich white men, by the way?) are largely the reason we’re all talking about destroying our economy in order to save some forest sweepings for our cave-dwelling grandchildren to eat.

Should they be proved genuine, which is looking likely at this point, in the absence of any denials, these emails are absolute dynamite. In one, CRU director Jones mentions using a “trick” to “hide the decline” in certain temperatures. (Hilariously, one of his online defenders subsequently claimed: “Scientists often use the term trick to refer to a good way to deal with a problem, rather than something that is secret, and so there is nothing problematic in this at all.” Could’ve tricked me. As for hiding a decline, the same defender meekly admits to “a poor choice of words”.)

Other words also seem poorly chosen, such as these, also allegedly from Jones: “If anything, I would like to see the climate change happen, so the science could be proved right, regardless of the consequences.” Considering that we’re told by these gumbies that the consequences of global warming would be untold death and destruction, Jones is clearly quite committed to his cause. Most normal people would cop the odd error here or there if it saved a single life; Jones would apparently rather people die than be shown up as wrong. (source)
