New Zealand Climate Madness: PM John Key says "our ETS worked"

Key... to the asylum

Hmm. “Worked” in what sense, John? Added costs to every business in New Zealand? Check. Raised electricity prices for every Kiwi in the land? Double Check-a-rooney. Made everything that they buy in the shops more expensive? Triple Check-a-doodle-doo.

But what about the climate? Did it lower temperatures? Nope. Did it make any difference to “global action” on climate? Double Nope. Did anybody, except the twits in the Gillard government, take any notice whatsoever of the fact that New Zealand had stitched up its economy like a kipper? Nope, nope and thrice nope.

New Zealand emits just 0.11% of global emissions. I’m going to write it BIG so people can see it:

0.11%

Even if that were reduced to zero, the planet wouldn’t give a sh*t.

What begets such total climate madness? Seriously, it’s completely, utterly, totally, mind-bogglingly beyond comprehension.

How much of this tax went to the United Nations, I wonder?

    • Good question. Can anyone help out?

      • Graham Richards says:

If it’s a market driven ETS what is the price per tonne?
        Anyone??
Market driven prices in USA were last heard of at +- $1.80 per tonne. If price is higher it’s not an ETS and it;s not market driven……..it’s just a big fat tax on everything.
That’s why Kiwi’s keep coming to OZ.

        • Baldrick says:

A total of $427,000 for New Zealand’s contribution to the United Nations Framework Convention and the Climate Change Development Fund 2011-2012 financial year.

        • Baldrick says:

The New Zealand ETS is presently in a transitional fixed price period with a carbon price of NZ$12.50 per tonne until 2012.

  2. Aside from the climate effect issues:

“The ETS had driven growth in the renewable energy sector and slowed deforestation, he said”

Expanding renewables into geothermal and more hydro might work for NZ, but I doubt it’ll work too well here. I expect that, and slowing deforestation, could have been possible without an ETS.

  3. Mervyn Sullivan says:

PM John Keys is talking rubbish. NZ introduced an ETS despite it being demonstrated that no discernible global warming had occurred in NZ but that NIWA promoted fraudulent manipulated temperature data subsequently disowned by the NZ government in a NZ Court for fear of the obvious legal ramifications:

Ah New Zealand a beautiful suburb of Sydney just East of Bondi ,a shining example of what will happen to us (the West Island) if Ju-liar gets her way

    • antiAGW says:

ah,NZ land of the ever increasingly electricity bill and soaring food costs… yep,a shining example …if we could only afford to leave a light or two on.

  5. Bob in Castlemaine says:

Not sure about the percentage of NZ’s carbon dioxide tax take that flows to the UN. But I suspect comparing that country’s tax with what’s proposed here is like comparing apples with bananas. Firstly most of NZ’s power (about 75%) is generated from renewable sources, not wind and solar but the type of renewables we had before post normal AGW economics came on the scene e.g. controllable hydro and geothermal. In Australia more than 90% of our power is generated by coal and gas. Also NZ’s carbon dioxide tax is equivalent to ~ $10 AUD / tonne compared with the Greens proposed shut down the country $100 / tonne, or the Gillard/Combet proposed $26 / tonne, just strangle them slowly version.
Just how much NZ subsidises solar and wind I don’t know but it certainly imposes a lot of dead weight in Australia’s saddle bags before we even get to the starting line on a carbon dioxide tax.

  6. The NZ ets has been in operation for six months iirc (introduced in Dec 2010 ?).
Key claims success, while Flannery says any impact on climate is up to a thousand years into the future.
One, or both of these people is lying.
Any warmers out there can cast the deciding vote.

  7. David Cooke says:

By “worked” I think Keys meant that it didn’t lose him many votes – ie, he ‘got away with it’.

    Press Release: Climate Conversation

Warmist temperature fraud was exposed in NZ court

NIWA’s complete renunciation of the old graph was confirmed recently by their admission in a court document that the graph was not an “official” record. Which means they have also disowned Dr Jim Salinger’s methodology, which created the graph.

“NIWA makes the huge admission that New Zealand has experienced hardly any warming during the last half-century. For all their talk about warming, for all their rushed invention of the “Eleven-Station Series” to prove warming, this new series shows that no warming has occurred here since about 1960. Almost all the warming took place from 1940-60, when the IPCC says that the effect of CO2 concentrations was trivial. Indeed, global temperatures were falling during that period.

“The new temperature record shows no evidence of a connection with global warming. Since that’s the reason this tempest in a teacup has brewed in the first place, it should simmer down now.”

We as a nation are one of highest taxed in the world – but wait – there is more to come! The Australian Government has committed us to paying a ten percent additional levy /tithe to the United Nations. This is a self serving un-elected unofficial quasi Governmental Body, who have written their own charter and draw their finances from the nations around the world who have ‘signed on’. Now Australia is about to collect another new tax, of which 10% has been formally promised to the United Nations Green Fund.
