Richard North

The incomparable Richard North, over at the EU Referendum blog, takes his blue pencil to the Guardian’s article about our dear leader’s “great big new tax on everything” (© T Abbott):

The Australian government has unveiled foisted on its people one of the world’s most ambitious insane schemes to tackle climate change destroy its economy, a plan to tax carbon dioxide emissions from the country’s worst polluters most productive industries.

After a bruising political battle to win support for crush opposition to the measure, the prime minister, Julia Gillard, said on Sunday that from July next year, 500 companies would pay $23 (£15) a ton for their carbon emissions in the largest emissions trading scheme episode of collective suicide outside Europe.

The government predicts that by 2029 the plan will lead to a reduction in emissions equivalent to taking 45 million cars off the road. The government will fix the tax for three years, before moving to a market-set price in 2015.

“It’s time to get on with this; we are going to get this done”, said Gillard.

In other words, as Richard says: “If we’re going to commit suicide, ’tis better it’s done quickly”.

  1. Would that be so hard for Julia to say?

  2. Baldrick says:

Strange how the Labor Government will tell you within 20c how better off you’ll be under a carbon dioxide tax but ask them by how many points of a degree the Australian carbon dioxide tax will cool the planet and they have no idea.

  3. The Loaded Dog says:

I’m aware that Richards corrections are supposed to be taken humorously but all they do is make me hate this government even more.

    I wonder why?

  4. Anothe newspaper report:

    The Washington Post
The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulafft, at Bergen, Norway.
Reports from fishermen, seal hunters, and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes.
Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.
Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.

I apologize, I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922, as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post – 88 years ago.

  5. its getting to the point where we have to go backwards as a society like growing our own vegies and using oil lamps to read by.

Oh hang on…maybe in all this, the *real* agenda is religious – perhaps the powers that be are in secret are gaia goddess zealots and this is their “sacrificial offering” perhaps?

The “killing off” by taxation of a whole society to appease the “gaia goddess”?

The thing is, once oyu have all the tax money – what will it buy you? There will be no luxury cars, no half decent food, no power, no fuel, no fun.

So perhaps what the real agenda is also includes they are spreading misery, disease, poor sanitation, no transport, no education, no human development.
Govt will be a form of oppressive tyranical agrarian fuedalism of the same sort we saw with the Inquisitions in europe and the Dark Ages.

In short – do these poeple truly hate humanity, as seems to be the case?

Certainly its a good “marriage” with the greens who seem to hate humanity as well.

  6. Bill Robbins says:

I like that “agrarian feudalism” ruled by Queen Julia and Nuts and Raisins Brown.
    Double dissolution soon please.

Perhaps all the MP`s & eco loons should watch this before they condem CO2 as a pollutant.
