Government climate scare campaign targets schoolchildren

Marty the spot-tailed quoll

Brainwash them while they are young – it’s so much easier then. Indoctrination Alert as the Herald Sun reports that children are being terrified by apocalypic climate change lessons in schools:

PRIMARY school children are being taught climate change will bring “death, injury and destruction” to the world unless they take action.

The concept of climate change is being taught to school students and used to underpin environmental studies in classrooms across Australia.

Resource material produced by the Federal Government for primary school teachers and students says climate change will cause “devastating disasters” in Australia.

“As well as their terrible impact on people, animals and ecosystems, they cause billions of dollars worth of damage to homes and other buildings,” the material says.

“Australia is one of the hottest and driest continents on Earth and is in danger of being severely affected by climate change if we do not act now.”

Psychologists and scientists yesterday slammed the lessons, accusing educators of being alarmist, creating unnecessary anxiety and endangering children’s mental health.

Sue Stocklmayer, director of the Centre for the Public Awareness of Science at Australian National University in Canberra, said climate change had been presented as a doomsday scenario.

Dr Stocklmayer said she was not a climate-change sceptic [everybody has to say that, or else they would be ostracised, branded a denier and silenced – Ed] but worried “too much time was spent presenting scary scenarios, especially to young people”.

“To put all of this before our children . . . is one of the most appalling things we can do to children.” (source)

None of this should surprise us. The government simply recycles the IPCC line without a second of critical thought.

And do you expect the government to care about the chidren’s welfare? In a word, no. All they are concerned about is indoctrinating another generation of children to believe their lies, spin and exaggerations on climate change, so they will stop thinking for themselves and turn into brainless zombies – at which point they will meet the requirements to vote Labor and join GetUp.

The link to the government material for primary schools is here – have a click around, it’s an eye opener to think our children are being exposed to this.

By the way, Marty the spot-tailed quoll is endangered partly because of climate change, apparently.

Climate indoctrination to continue in schools

Climate propaganda

Whereas the UK has abandoned [correction – “has recommended abandoning” (link)- Ed] teaching climate science in its curriculum, Australia will plough on, with our extremist (former Australian Conservation Foundation president) school education minister Peter Garrett confirming that the indoctrination with political propaganda will continue:

SCHOOL Education Minister Peter Garrett has confirmed the Gillard government will not stop the teaching of climate science in the classroom following a move in Britain for the subject to be withdrawn from the national curriculum.

Mr Garrett clarified last night that climate change was not taught as a curriculum subject in its own right in Australian schools, but could be adequately dealt with in science and geography classes.

“We have a cross-curriculum theme which is sustainability, and I think climate change would be an element of that,” he said on the ABC’s Q&A program.

Tom Oates, who will release the blueprint for a revised national syllabus for Britain later this year, has suggested teachers focus on core scientific principles instead of the impact of scientific processes on peoples’ lives. [Gee, what a novelty – a good idea for once – Ed]

Mr Oates, director of research at exams agency Cambridge Assessment, told The Guardian in Britain: “The national curriculum shouldn’t ever try to keep up with those, otherwise it would keep changing.”

However, Mr Garrett said it was unequivocal that there was a consensus of scientific opinion on the reality of climate change. “That is something that should be reflected in the ordinary course of a student’s education. If there are competing theories of one kind or another, they’re things that teachers can raise as well.” (source)

Very, very unlikely. In reality, it will be the force-feeding of impressionable young minds with politically skewed propagandist claptrap on climate, which has nothing to do with learning about impartial, free thinking scientific enquiry, but everything to do with programming a new generation of drones to unquestioningly believe whatever the government tells it. Tragic.

More taxpayer-funded indoctrination of our children

Government-funded indoctrination

A new government web site has been launched, catchily entitled Shout Out for Climate Change, encouraging students from primary to tertiary to create TV adverts or artistic works that “raise awareness of climate change”. As if that isn’t scary enough, it’s fronted with a video of Penny Wong – run for the hills! Indoctrination Alert:

The Shout Out for Climate Change competition offers young Australians the opportunity to share their thoughts and views on climate change.

If you are an aspiring film director, actor, advertising executive or just have a creative flair and care about the future of our planet [since because if you don’t subscribe to the hysterical climate alarmism of the Labor government, you don’t “care about the future of the planet” – Ed], we are counting on you to shout out for climate change in the 2010 school and university competition.

All Australian primary, secondary and tertiary students living and studying in Australia are eligible to enter the Shout Out for Climate change competition.

Through this competition you will have the opportunity to ‘shout out’ your ideas about combating climate change – and we will help you share them with Australia.

Climate propaganda, pure and simple, paid for by your taxes. Be angry, be very angry.

Another museum falls prey to climate dogma

Another one bites the dust

Indoctrination Alert as another climate change disciple takes on a senior role at a museum. From the Sydney Morning Herald:

A LEADING Australian businesswoman with a keen interest in climate change and sustainability will be the new president of the Australian Museum Trust.

Samantha Mostyn, the second woman to hold the position, said she was incredibly proud to take the helm of the governing body of the natural history museum. ”The museum is one of the most cherished institutions in Sydney, if not the country,” she said.

Ms Mostyn is the director of the Institute for Sustainable Solutions at the University of Sydney. A lawyer, she has a long history in the business sector and was once a political adviser to the former prime minister Paul Keating. She is also an adviser on the board of ClimateWorks, a partnership between Monash University and the Myer Foundation.

The Herald reported on a study by ClimateWorks yesterday that suggested the federal opposition climate policy would reduce carbon emissions by only half the amount it had claimed. [And ABC NewsWatch pointed out that ClimateWorks is just a cheap shill for Labor, see here – Ed]

Ms Mostyn said while the museum did not have a background in climate science it did have an extensive natural history collection that illustrated Australia’s unique biodiversity.

”It shows what we stand to lose if we don’t think carefully about the impact of the change in climate,” she said. ”I would like the museum to continue to play a role in helping [the public] understand some of the big science and nature debates that we are currently dealing with.’‘ (source)

Soon there won’t be a museum left in Australia that won’t brainwash its visitors about climate change…

Indoctrination Alert: Build-a-Bear uses "climate change" in Christmas video

Ella: starred in An Inconvenient Truth, and now at Build-a-Bears worldwide

How a major retailer can shoot itself in the foot at Christmas, in three easy stages:

Stage One: indoctrinate thousands of children innocently visiting the B-a-B website with cute story about Santa which just happens to mention that the ice at the North Pole is melting because of the changing climate (transcript and comments from biggovernment.com):

Here’s an excerpt (1:07-2:22):

Girl Elf: Santa, it’s gone!

Papa Elf: It’s gone, It’s gone!

Santa: What’s gone?

Girl Elf: Tell ‘em, Dad!

Papa Elf: The North Peak.

Santa: A mountain? A mountain’s gone? How is that possible?

Ella the polar bear: Santa, sir, that’s why I’m here. That’s why we’re here. The ice is melting!

Santa: Yes, my dear, we know, the climate is changing. There’s bound to be a little melting.

Ella: It’s worse than that, Santa, a lot worse! At the rate it’s melting, the North Pole will be gone by Christmas!”

Santa: My, my…all of this gone by next Christmas? I don’t think so.

Ella: No sir, not next Christmas, this Christmas! The day after tomorrow!

And this is merely the tip of the dialogue iceberg, if you’ll forgive me for putting it that way … Children of the world can look forward to priceless exchanges such as, “Oh my! Where will the polar bears live?” and my personal fave: “Where will the elves live?”

I suspect you’d like to think it can’t get any worse than that. Thus, it pains me to tell you that animated characters actually break into a discussion of satellite photos and that Mrs. Claus conducts a rather unscientific experiment involving ice cubes.

Stage two: receive sackloads of complaints about subliminal indoctrination of children.

Stage three: pull the video and publish a grovelling apology on your web site:

Our intention with the Polar Bear story was to inspire children, through the voices of our animal characters, to make a difference in their own individual ways. We did not intend to politicize the topic of global climate change or offend anyone in any way. The webisodes concluded this week with Santa successfully leaving on his journey to deliver gifts around the world. The webisodes will no longer be available on the site.

Doesn’t matter what you intended, Ms Clark, the fact is, you did.

Read the full gory story at Watts Up With That (and watch the video too, if you can “bear” it).

Indoctrination: Kids give PM climate lesson

Climate indoctrination

Climate indoctrination

Indoctrination Alert as children at an ACT school meet Kevin Rudd:

Canberra school children have urged Kevin Rudd to do all he can to stop climate change – including walk to work.

The prime minister met with youngsters from the O’Connor Cooperative School on Monday, hours before leaving for global climate change talks in Copenhagen.

They presented him with a book of suggestions to help stop rising greenhouse gas emissions harming the environment.

Some children called for massive cuts to carbon emissions, others the rollout of electric cars.

But Nicholas, seven, had a much simpler idea.

He encouraged people to walk to work, especially Mr Rudd, because he lives so close to Parliament House.

How can children of K-2 age call for “massive cuts to carbon emissions” unless the phrase had been provided to them by the teaching staff? Sorry to state the obvious, but the lefty enviro-loony teachers in Canberra clearly haven’t grasped it: seven year-olds should be taught how to read, write and do sums, not force fed political and environmental propaganda.

Thank your lucky stars your kids don’t go to school there.

More climate indoctrination

Political indoctrination?

Political indoctrination?

It’s becoming more and more common. Climate propaganda, often sanctioned by the government, is aimed at children, who, being more trusting and less experienced in the realities of life, are less able to distinguish facts from indoctrination. They soak it all up, take it home and badger their parents with it, and the government’s job is done. So here we have another Indoctrination Alert as children at Cranbourne Secondary College in Victoria “pledge to put the brakes on climate change”:

Year 7 and 8 art and textiles students each made and decorated a patchwork pledge patch that were then sewn together to make a quilt panel.

On each patch, the students have appliqued or sewn a design, written their name, age and suburb, along with a personal pledge committing to make a small change in their life that will help the environment.

Their finished product will be taken to the United Nations Climate Convention in Copenhagen by Leigh Hofman from Habitat Planet who helped co-ordinate the climate quilt campaign project.

The aim of the finished quilt is to empower children and give them a voice at the conference and to tangibly connect children worldwide around the issue of climate change and show what they can do about it.

The implication being that a global agreement in Copenhagen to slash emissions is necessary to “save the planet” from climate change. I have no objection to children being taught to care for the environment – indeed it is essential that they are. However, I do have a serious problem with schools involving children in a controversial political matter such as the Copenhagen climate convention. And you can bet that there will have been only one side of the climate debate discussed – and you can guess which side it is, can’t you?

Read it here.

P.S. There is no record whatsoever on Google for an organisation called “Habitat Planet”…

UPDATE: Thanks to reader Bob Campbell, who has helpfully pointed out the the organisation is “Habitat Heroes”, which you will note itself is a veritable goldmine of indoctrination cleverly camouflaged as fun activities for kids… Click here for a taste.

Cartoons to "teach kids to save Barrier Reef"

The word on the truck sums it up nicely…

The word on the truck sums it up nicely…

Indoctrination Alert as the ABC reports that the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority is “targeting children” in its latest effort to protect the reef.

A series of cartoons will go online and be sent to schools around the country to let children know they can play a role in preventing climate change’s impact on the reef.

The authority’s chief scientist, Dr David Wachenfeld says it has enlisted the help of some colourful creatures to get children’s attention.

“We’ve got Hermi the hermit crab who goes through a few trials and tribulations in relation to ocean acidification and we’ve also got some very charismatic coral polyps who do some fairly amusing things in explaining the impacts of climate change and global warming,” he said.

Dr Wachenfeld says while the health of the reef is a serious issue, engaging children is essential for its survival.

“We thought that it was really important that kids understand both what are the risks from climate change to the reef but actually more importantly, what can they and their families do in their homes, their schools and their businesses to help the reef and minimise the impacts of climate change, so that’s really the thrust behind these animations,” he said.

Climate change for dummies, or in this case, children

Climate change for dummies, or in this case, children

The “Climate Change” animation links CO2 to climate change, then links climate change to droughts and droughts to dying plants; it links climate change to “cyclones” that make big waves and smash coral reefs; it links climate change to warming seas causing corals to “lose colour and die and fish to go away”. It then harangues the viewer to “cycle or walk to places instead of going in the car”, “switch off TV and lights when not in the room” (accompanied by a picture of wind farms and solar panels), and “travel by bus instead of flying” (fun if you were going to the US or Europe, say).

And I know you’re all dying to see it, so here’s Hermi in action:

This is yet another example of completely unacceptable brainwashing of our children, sanctioned by the Rudd government, using especially sinister methods to do it. And the most idiotic thing of all, linking the 1.5% of global emissions produced by Australia to the fate of the Barrier Reef. Climate madness.

Check out the other animations here.
