Result! Coalition slashes funds to UN climate scroungers

Snouts out of the trough

Snouts out of the trough

It’s a drop in the ocean, to be sure, but at least it is in the right direction. The ABC, naturally, is inconsolable:

The Federal Government has slashed funding to a key United Nations environment agency by more than 80 per cent, stunning environmental groups ahead of a global climate change summit in Peru.

The ABC has learned the Government cut $4 million from the UN Environment Program (UNEP), which provides advice on environmental policies and climate change negotiations.

“Whether it’s air pollution, whether it’s ozone depleting substances, what’s happening in the world’s oceans, the conservation of biodiversity – for a relatively small amount, Australia benefits from leveraging well over $500 million in contributions that other countries make,” UNEP’s executive director Achim Steiner said.

Australia was due to contribute around $1.2 million this year, but has only offered $200,000.

Over the next four years it will scale back its funding by $4 million. (source)

Only a few billion to go, then…

Ed Davey: ‘One year to save planet’

Where do they find them?

Where do they find them?

OK, right, just shut up and listen. We’ve only got ONE year to save the planet, starting NOW.

Thus spake the UK’s moonbat minister for energy, commenting on the Lima gab-fest:

World leaders must agree a deal to tackle global warming within the next year or risk losing our way of life as we know it, Ed Davey, the energy secretary has warned ahead of major international negotiations in Lima.

About 9,000 politicians, diplomats and non-governmental organisation delegates will descend on the Peruvian capital over the next two weeks for the UN’s annual climate change talks, intended to thrash out key details to enable a global deal by an agreed deadline of next year’s summit in Paris.

Mr Davey told the Telegraph: “These are the last major annual talks before we hit our deadline in Paris next year. We need a deal in Paris – there is no alternative that will protect our national security, our economy and the way of life we take for granted.” (source)

Ed was no doubt following the timetable set by the WWF:

WWF’s Climate Solutions report shows how the world can limit its heat-trapping emissions with known technologies and policy changes, using only sustainable, environmentally friendly energy sources.

“The question for leaders and governments everywhere is how to rein in dangerously high levels of carbon dioxide emissions without stunting development and reducing living standards,” said James Leape, WWF International’s Director General. “The Climate Solutions report shows not only that this can be done, it shows how we can do it. We have a small window of time in which we can plant the seeds of change, and that is the next five years. We cannot afford to waste them.

Except that report was in, er, 2007.

Even worse, according to Penny Sackett, alarmist ex-chief scientist, our time runs out in just three days…

Lima: latest in long line of pointless climate gab-fests

Life is tough on the climate bandwagon…

Life is tough on the climate bandwagon…

Billions of taxpayer dollars will be pissed up the wall yet again, sending environmental rent-seekers and trough-feeders to an exotic luxury hotel to tell the world how to control the weather.

But don’t forget, the big one is in Paris next year, so this is just the warm-up. Hopefully, Paris will be just as successful as Copenhagen.

Typically, the ABC has one of its regular enviro-gasms:

Representatives from almost 200 nations have begun arriving in the Peruvian capital, Lima, for UN climate talks that get underway on Monday.

Delegates will meet for 10 days to work on a new deal to limit rising greenhouse gas emissions, meant to be agreed at a summit in Paris in December next year.

Christiana Figueres, the executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, has described the talks as a “stepping stone” towards a universal treaty.

“Never before have the risks of climate change been so obvious and the impacts so visible,” she said in a statement ahead of the meeting.

“Never before have we seen such a desire at all levels of society to take climate action.

“Never before has society had all the smart policy and technology resources to curb greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience.”

Pledges in recent weeks by China, the United States and the European Union to limit emissions have helped brighten prospects for a new global deal, even though it is likely to be too weak to match UN calls for deep cuts to limit heatwaves, droughts and rising seas. (source)

Surprise! Bureau warns of ‘scorching, dry summer’

A Bureau meteorologist prepares the seasonal outlook

A meteorologist at the BoM prepares the latest seasonal outlook

I’m surprised they didn’t warn of an ‘angry summer’ (© The Climate Council).

Actually it wasn’t angry at all. It wasn’t even slightly miffed. The crystal-ball-gazing of the Bureau has a pretty shocking track record, but that doesn’t stop the usual pre-summer catastrophism:

Most Australians are in for a substantially hotter and drier-than-normal summer, the Bureau of Meteorology’s latest seasonal outlook says.

The bureau’s December to February Climate and Water Outlook predicts warmer-than-normal summer days and nights are more likely for all regions except western WA, southwestern Victoria and Tasmania.

While that outlook is less severe for western Victoria than was forecast in November’s three-month outlook, BoM climate prediction service manager Dr Andrew Watkins says the odds still slightly favour warmer conditions.

“You’ve got to remember that we’re coming off a very dry period and a very warm period in western Victoria,” Dr Watkins said.

“Things have been dry. Things have been hot and the bushfire potential is still very high in those areas.” (source)

If it’s as accurate as previous BoM seasonal outlooks, we should be in for a few months of cold and rain.

Slow news day at the ABC: shoot a polar bear

You're killing me with your addition to fossil fuels

You’re killing me with your addiction to fossil fuels

Plucked from the ABC’s library of climate alarmism, here we have yet another ‘polar bears are doomed’ story to add to the millions we have seen already (none of which have, or will, come true).

But so what if none of these apocalyptic prophesies ever come to pass? The ABC, and its nauseating coterie of Greeny-Lefty, inner-city, bike-riding, latte-sipping, sandal-wearing, basket-weaving, yoghurt-knitting, pro-Palestinian, “Fuck Tony Abbott” supporting, Ultimo-squatting trendoids, cares about the climate, and it constantly needs to demonstrate this by publishing this kind of crap.

And just to ram the point home, the article is accompanied by an oh-so-cute photo of a polar bear cub, just so all you evil deniers out there can feel really guilty for putting petrol in your car or using electricity generated from coal:

Scientists are warning polar bears in the Arctic could face starvation by the end of the century if sea ice keeps shrinking.

Sea ice projections for the Canadian Arctic Archipelago show global warming could reduce the icy periods polar bears need to hunt and breed each year.

The Canadian Arctic Archipelago is known as the “last ice area” and was thought to be a long-term safe haven for the polar bear.

But researchers said the findings were an early warning sign for the potential impacts of climate change on other Arctic species too.

Dr Andrew Derocher from Canada’s University of Alberta said the region’s icy conditions were crucial for polar bears, but sea ice projections in the area were not positive.

He said the ice models showed the animals could starve if climate change continued on its current trajectory, as it would not only impact upon the bears, but also their prey.

“We know already that other populations further south and in other areas won’t be doing well … but in this area where we thought the ice would persist well into this century [we’ve started] to see serious difficulties,” he said.

“They have a short window in the spring time where they gorge themselves on the fat of seals. The problem is, if you push them too far, they don’t have enough energy stored.

“It’s clear we’re on a trajectory that will result in many populations of polar bears blinking out.” (source)

ABC wheels out Mungo to prop up Obama

Mungo's minging

Mungo – minging

Mungo MacCallum: the ABC’s go-to lefty* for trashing Abbott, praising Obama and ensuring the bias never lets up. Hilarious.

This is all you need to read of the latest Mungo-gram (you’re welcome):

Barack Obama’s speech to the University of Queensland during the G20 bash was undoubtedly a show-stopper: spell-binding oratory with a powerful message urging the people, particularly the youth, to demand more action on climate change.

After that gem of jaw-dropping hyperbole, the rest of the article is a terrible anticlimax…

Obama ignored US embassy advice on climate speech

Obamoron.

Obamoron…

Obama thinks that he can say pretty much what he likes – you know, being the messiah, US emperor ruling by executive decree etc. Despite being warned, by his own staff, not to make an attack on Australia’s climate policy, he just blundered on regardless:

BARACK Obama defied the advice of his embassy in Canberra to deliver a stinging attack on the Abbott government’s climate policies in Brisbane last weekend.

The US embassy, under the leadership of ambassador John Berry, advised the President, through his senior staff, not to couch his climate change comments in a way that would be seen as disobliging to the Abbott government, sources have revealed.

When The Weekend Australian put this information to the US embassy, a spokesman said: “As is the case with all presidential speeches, President Obama’s remarks at the University of Queensland in Brisbane were prepared by the White House.”

It is normal practice when the US President makes an overseas visit that the ambassador in the country he is visiting is consulted about the contents of major speeches. It is unusual, though not unprecedented, for an embassy’s advice to be ignored.

Mr Obama’s repeated references to the climate change debate in Australia, his accusation that Australia was an inefficient user of energy and his repeated references to the Great Barrier Reef, which has figured heavily in the climate change debate, have led observers to conclude that the speech was a deliberate swipe at the Abbott government.

Historians of the US-Australia relationship are unable to nominate a case of a visiting president making such a hostile speech for the host government.

Tanya Plibersek didn’t think his discourteous and inappropriate conduct was a problem, of course – no doubt because they are both lefty climate alarmists. The only problem she could see was when Julie Bishop administered the entirely justified verbal colonic in response – no doubt because Bishop is a filthy conservative.

Counter-moonbat of the Week: Bishop slaps down Obama

Don't mess with me, moonbats…

Don’t mess with me, moonbats…

If Tanya Plibersek is against it, there’s a good chance it must make a great deal of sense. As in this case.

Julie Bishop delivers a spectacular bollocking to climate-obsessed Obama after his laughable speech in Queensland at the G20:

FOREIGN Minister Julie Bishop’s office has written to the White House disputing Barack Obama’s claims about the Great Barrier Reef, arguing the world heritage icon is “not threatened” by climate change or environmental degradation.

Labor foreign affairs spokeswoman Tanya Plibersek branded Ms Bishop’s actions an “extraordinary attack on our close friend and ally”.

The ‘extraordinary attack’ by Obama on his close friend and ally goes unnoticed by Tanya. I wonder why?

The Australian this week revealed the Queensland government, as host of last weekend’s G20 summit in Brisbane, was considering a formal complaint to Washington over what it saw as an insulting and provocative speech by the US President that was based on “misinformation” about management of the Great Barrier Reef.

It is understood that US officials contacted the Queensland government after the revelation in The Australian.

The Foreign Minister, in New York to chair UN Security Council terrorism talks, this morning said she was “surprised” by Mr Obama’s remarks and had since sent a “detailed briefing” to the Oval Office on the issue.

Ms Bishop said state and federal agencies had banned resource exploration and capital dredge dumping near the Great Barrier Reef, and were contributing $180 million annually to manage the health of the reef.

“I wanted to ensure the White House was well aware of the significant steps that the Australian government and the Queensland government were taking to ensure that the Great Barrier Reef is not threatened by climate change, by nutrient run off from agriculture, by mining or drilling,” she told Sky News.

Ms Bishop said she personally made clear Australia’s position on the reef to the US Secretary of the Interior, Sally Jewell, only days before the Brisbane speech.

Mr Obama, speaking at the University of Queensland on Saturday, said climate change “here in Australia” means “longer droughts, more wildfires” and “the incredible natural glory of the Great Barrier Reef is threatened”. (source)

Like all climate moonbats, as far as Obama is concerned, facts are just an inconvenience.

Environmentalists unable to maintain this particular erection…

Hilarious video showing an inflatable coal plant spectacularly deflated thanks to the piss-weak effort of a solar panel. Eventually, they just had to plug it into the mains power, provided by the company that, er, they were protesting against.

Blue Mountains fires: ABC plugs climate change angle

"Oh Greg, there's a fire burning inside me." "I think you'll find that climate change made it worse…"

“Oh Greg darling, there’s a fire burning inside me.” “Yes, and it’ll get worse thanks to climate change…”

No doubt getting a few hints from her current squeeze, former Labor Climate Change minister Greg Combet, newsreader Juanita Phillips disappointed this particular viewer tonight by stringing up RFS Chief Shane Fitzsimmons like a kipper and leading him down the murky path to politicising the Blue Mountains bush fires.

Phillips used the interview as an opportunity to ask a barrage of questions about the effect of climate change, which Fitzsimmons was completely unqualified to answer. But don’t forget, in ABC land, being qualified to speak on climate only applies to sceptics, though.
